Note: this post was written a couple of years ago (before I even had a blog to publish to!)...
Picture this: We're away camping and I'm stood in the middle of a field with a cup of coffee in my hand while my 4 year old daughter is sat on a composting toilet doing her business. Holy crap, this is the life! I mean, what does it take to even be able to aspire to this? Isn't this exactly what you imagine when you plan a holiday? What level of success to you need to achieve this?
Ok, there's a tiny bit of sarcasm. (There I go again!). But I will confess that I sighed internally when we were at the tent and she timidly said that she needed the loo. I will confess that those were the kind of thoughts running through my head while I was stood there slurping my coffee.
And then bam!, it hit me. We were camping and she needed the loo. She felt nervous and wanted someone to go with her. She was nervous and I made her feel safe. In fact, she felt safe enough that on the way she was gaily running across the field in her pyjamas and wellies. Not an athletic run, but that joyful run that only a young child can manage. She was full of happiness for such a simple thing.
And I was there with her. Not only that, but I even had a coffee in my hand!
